79.	See the Top 100 Greatest Films (http://www.infoplease.com/ipea/A0760906.html) (37/100)
While waiting for my fabric to come out of the dryer for my apron, I watched Singing in the Rain, which had been recommended to me a number of times. I really enjoyed the choreography and how seemingly effortlessly the actors carry it out and of course the storyline is interesting (the appearance of movies with sound or “talkies” as they were called at the time) and reminds me of when we talked about that in my music in film class. Costumes were gorgeous too, especially during the Broadway number. Totally want a flapper dress.
All in all, not a bad way to spend a Saturday night. I’m over a third through the list, both of movies and my overall list which is encouraging. I should watch something sad and serious now so that I’m not left with all the epic angst-filled dramas at the end. I still have some light ones though like Sound of Music & Some Like It Hot but I also have a lot of heavy things like The Godfather I & II. I should really just have a Godfather marathon. Anyone want to watch with me?

Watched It Happened One Night with Clark Gable tonight. I found it quite delightful, especially the last scene. I loved his character and his witticisms very much and I liked the female protagonist as well (which is almost a first. Often the women in these films seem quite two-dimensional at best and sort of manipulative/evil at worse, or maybe that should be reversed..). I actually bought them as a couple which helped. Recommended!
(scene from when our female protagonist accidentally falls asleep on our male protagonist and he can’t quite bring himself to rouse her, even when they stop for breakfast)

79. See the Top 100 Greatest Films (http://www.infoplease.com/ipea/A0760906.html) (34/100)
Watched Maltese Falcon tonight… it was sort of not what I expected. I think I expected more twists, more intrigue, more believable romance, perhaps. In these movies, it’s always the tall dashing man and the tiny attractive woman confessing love but I have no idea where they find the time to fall in love while they’re off chasing bad guys and lying to each other. I suppose I didn’t find the chemistry believable at all and the ending sort of fell flat for me. I thought it would be more clever, I suppose.
But in spite of all that, spending an evening watching Humphrey Bogart isn’t exactly a hardship.

79. See the Top 100 Greatest FilmsAnother one crossed off! Enjoyed this one (though like North by Northwest more). Up next… Chinatown or It Happened One Night or perhaps Raging Bull. All are waiting patiently on my harddrive.

79. See the Top 100 Greatest Films
Saw Philadelphia Story last night. Was completely charmed. It came along at a perfect time, a time when I was looking over the other 70 movies I still have to watch and thinking, ‘why am I doing this? I won’t enjoy probably half of these. They’ll be depressing and boring and I won’t learn anything’. Philadelphia Story, of course, was not one of the more serious films on the list and was definitely entertaining and funny. I’d definitely recommend. Especially if you’re a fan of Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart (and who isn’t?).
What should I watch next? I was thinking a mystery or thriller like Vertigo or Maltese Falcon… (comments are enabled if you want to leave suggestions! The list is linked above. I’ve only watched 30 so far so chances are I haven’t watched whatever you’re recommending)

Further progress…

Another mini progress report!

Since the last one, I’ve…

  • Folded 32 cranes. I’m doing an Asian Heritage storytime on Wednesday so I thought I’d give them out at the end. I usually don’t have any more than 20-25 kids but I may fold a few more just in case.
  • I’ve thought a bit more about what tattoo I want to get. It’s hard to narrow down. I think I want something from nature, like a tree or birds or a dandelion, but I’m still working out the ‘where’
  • Got out a book on 500 different martinis. Still need to buy a martini shaker and some alcohol but then I should be good to go. Some really neat varieties in there. I’ve really only had a chocolate martini but I’d like to try some of the fruity ones too (since I’m that kind of light weight). I’d like to have my martini down by Father’s Day. It’s my dad’s favourite drink. As a child I remember eating the olives from his martini’s. For the longest time olives that hadn’t been in a martini tasted strange.
  • Read some more harlequin (can’t actually remember the title. Something like ‘In His Arms’) and some more of my first classic (This Side of Paradise)
  • Saw another Top 100 Films - Annie Hall. I actually really enjoyed it. I didn’t think I would since I normally am not a big Woody Allen fan but this one I really did like.

It was so ridiculously rainy today. I wished I had my rainboots. I haven’t been able to find a pair that fit me, for all my looking. Hopefully soon.

In progress…

It’s more fun to post the completed list items but I do have a bunch of things in progress…

  • reading a classic, ‘This Side of Paradise’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald. So far really enjyoing it. I feel like if I met the protaganist in real life I would think he was a pretentious prick, but in the book he’s just amusing.
  • Have seen a bunch of classic films. So far really enjoyed North by Northwest and Bonnie and Clyde and didn’t really enjoy Streetcar Named Desire and The Apartment.
  • Have ordered fabric to make an apron out of (and possibly a quilt, though I don’t think I have that much)
  • I’ve made 3 out of my 5 mix CDs
  • And sent a few pieces of mail around the world
  • I’ve done some research into things like fitness classes (I think I’m going to try Zumba), art classes, flea markets, how to take pictures and got a few poetry books out from the library
  • I’ve downloaded a couple MMORPG trials so we’ll see how that goes.
  • I’m seeing a band live on Tuesday (Fall Out Boy :D)
  • I’m reading a harlequin too. So far it’s not terrible but it’s not the sort of thing I’ll probably ever read again

So yes. Things are in the works!
